Hungry for Music Notes

Fall Newsletter

In these divisive and uncertain times, we need music now more than ever.  I remember reading an interview with singer-songwriter Judy Collins in the early days of Hungry for Music where she said, “Music will heal, when all else has really failed.”  These words inspired me, and continue to inspire me.  They help me realize the importance of Hungry for Music’s mission.

I do believe that, ultimately, music will aid in healing us through its encompassing power.  Its ability to unite, bring joy, inspire, communicate, and express emotion.

At Hungry for Music, we just want to continue to grow our outreach and play our small part.  To bring the joy of music to as many kids as we possibly can, who will develop a lifelong love for music and a companion for their emotions.

I am grateful for all those who believe in our mission and have helped us through our 31 years of service.

Thank you!!!

May you always find comfort in music,

Our Outreach In Action
- Testimonials-

“Thank you for the violins! We received them on Monday.  Our students are so excited to have a violin to use in Strings classes and to take home to practice.   I wanted to share a couple of pictures of students who are benefitting from Hungry for Music's donations to Ashley River.

We are grateful for your support!”

~ Amanda, Music Teacher in South Carolina

“When Little Sister Ciara needed a trumpet to stay in her middle school band, we knew we had to help. Musical instruments can be expensive, but thanks to the generosity of the national program Hungry for Music, Ciara now has a trumpet of her very own! She’s thrilled to keep learning and playing — and we’re so happy to help her start the school year doing something she loves. Thank you, Hungry for Music, for making this possible!”

“The Lafayette Elementary fifth graders in Louisiana have been making use of the HFM fiddles that were given to us.  They are so fired up!”

~ Madelaine DeHart at Lache Pas Louisiana Heritage

“I was in a panic when I realized that I was twenty instruments short for one of my buildings.    I came upon your foundation, applied for help, and received a call from you within two days!  Within a few weeks a white van delivered seven instruments, six violins and one viola. I cannot explain to you the joy you brought to us.  The instruments are excellent, and you even sent us bows! Thank you for being a part of our mission.  You blessed us tremendously.”

~ Mrs. Alexandra Fisher, Middle School Orchestra Director

International Donations

Hungry for Music has twice delivered instruments to Father Thomas in St. Louis that he has sent in a shipping container to Uganda. The photos below reflect Father Thomas distributing the latest donation to the village in Uganda that his congregation supports.

"Once again, thank you to Hungry for Music for the wonderful donation of musical instruments for our children at Bukalasa Seminary in Uganda. I am overjoyed to share that the shipment arrived safely this summer during my travels to Uganda, and all the instruments have now been handed over to our students.

Your generosity has given our music program new life. Our students now have real access to instruments that will help them grow in skill, confidence, and expression. These instruments are not just tools for learning; they are trumpets of hope, strings of faith, and notes of beauty shining in the lives of our young students.

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything". We are already witnessing this truth as our students play, sing, and share their joy together.

From my heart and on behalf of Bukalasa Seminary, thank you for supporting our mission. May God bless you abundantly for the hope and opportunity you continue to bring to our children through music.”

~ Father Thomas

Memorial Guitar Donation

This is Roger (l) and Bill (r) who donated their late friend Dave’s guitars to Hungry for Music.    We will find a good home for them.  Dave’s spirit will live on through the guitars.
