Dear Hungry for Music Supporter,

So far in 2023, Hungry for Music has distributed 871 instruments to 49 programs in 17 states.  Your support helps us cover the costs of repair, shipping, and also the purchasing of new instruments.

We are in the middle of our Annual Spring Fundraiser and would appreciate your support!

Please enjoy our latest newsletter and see our music donation program in action.

We look forward to continuing to grow our outreach, one music instrument at a time.

May You Always Find Comfort in Music,

The End of a Successful 2022

The last Hungry for Music instrument donation of 2022 was an electric guitar to an excellent music education program in Austin, BandAid School of Music.

Thank you for sending along the awesome photo, James Mays (Founder/Director)!

Hungry for Music distributed a total of  2,685 music instruments last year.

Ukuleles Continue Spreading the Joy

The generous donation of ukuleles from Bond Audio and facilitated by the D’Addario Foundation have been mostly distributed to dozens of programs throughout the United States. Hungry for Music greatly appreciates their support.    We are grateful to Gamal at Bond Audio for facilitating the donations.

The last of the ukuleles that were distributed to American Federation of Teacher’s (AFT) affiliates were picked up in Cinncinnati by the local chapter.  AFT received over 1,500 ukuleles that went to schools in Florida, Texas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, California,

and Illinois.

Hungry for Music also shipped 250 ukuleles to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that were distributed by Kathryn Clusman to 10 different music organizations in Cleveland.

And last month, 20 went to Jacob Elementary School in Louisville, KY.  Music teacher Kyri Denby, who in 2020 also received a selection of violins and cellos from us, is also active on Tik-Tok and YouTube with educational songs for kids and tips for teachers.

He spreads positive messages of love, acceptance and mindfulness through music as well as children's books. Look for some videos later this year with his kids and the ukuleles. See Kyri's videos for kids and teachers here.

A Kay Bass to Appalachia

Kiana of Instrumental Partners in Louisville with Hungry for Music volunteer, Kay Coyte

Another Kay bass donated to Hungry for Music. The very first Kay upright bass that was donated to Hungry for Music was sold to a DC-area musician nearly 20 years ago. With the proceeds, we were able purchase 10 beginner guitars for a school program.

Since that first Kay upright donation, Hungry for Music has received almost two dozen upright bass donations that we have distributed to various programs. Many have gone to Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) programs, which Hungry for Music began supporting in 2009.

In photo: Jim Lloyd, who is always happy to be a drop off point for JAM donations.

"Hungry for Music is equally responsible for helping our organization be so successful over the years! These instruments will go out to programs in need, and often, to developing programs for a jump start on traditional music education."

A large donation for Young Musicians Foundation in Los Angeles included a Pearl drum set, seven electric guitars, three amps, an electric bass, guitar pedals/accessories, three keyboards, and four pairs of PreSonus speakers.

Hungry for Music has enjoyed watching Luis Sanchez’ project, Guitars Antiqua, grow over the last six years! We recently shipped five new 1/2 sized Yamaha classical guitars for a new program and delivered six nylon classical guitars last week.

Keep up the great work, Luis!
We made our first donation to Guitars Over Guns in Miami, who are starting affiliates in other cities.
This was our fourth large donation to Young Musicians Unite in Miami since 2019.

Hungry for Music is grateful to Samantha Crell (in photo, with her dad) for holding a music instrument drive in her community for her bat mitzvah service project.

Also, thank you to Zoe Sekasula at North Providence High School in Rhode Island for organizing a music concert at her school and raising nearly $700.

Awesome job, Samantha and Zoe!!!

Dogs Helping Kids ðŸ˜Š

Ralphie is one talented dog!  He spends a lot of his time skateboarding and creating art!  Ralphie, who is deaf, recently painted a guitar to benefit Hungry for Music.

Any donor that makes a contribution to Hungry for Music’s Annual Spring Fundraiser will automatically be entered into a drawing for this very unique guitar.

We appreciate Ralphie and his owner, Jacklin, for thinking of us.

DONATE to enter the raffle for Ralphie’s art guitar.

Memorial Donation in Honor of Marvin White

Hungry for Music would like to thank Chris White for donating her brother Marvin’s music gear and equipment to us to honor his life that was cut short by a DUI driver.

The donations benefited Chicago’s BandWith music program and several programs on the east coast.  Marvin’s spirit will carry on through these donations.

"Marvin was a music lover and had lots of instruments.  I would like to donate the items in his memory.  Especially because he liked helping the

youth and the homeless in Chicago.  He was also an entrepreneur and an advisor to many adults."

~ Chris White

Priceless Foundation, Corporate, Artist Support

Hungry for Music is extremely grateful for the following support we have recently received:

D’Addario  Foundation

D’Addario continues to give us invaluable support by donating strings for cellos, violas, violins, guitars/basses (acoustic and electric), and also drum heads, so our repair folks can properly service the instruments.

Spirit of Harmony Foundation

One of their Florida volunteers, Veronica Morano, collected instruments in her area and passed them on to us.

Donner, Inc.

Donner donated 22 drum sets (acoustic & electronic). Five of them went to Rock to the Future.

Newport Folk Festival Foundation and Bella White

For her Artist Give, Bella White asked Newport Festivals Foundation to provide a grant to Hungry for Music.

Thank you!

We could not provide the gift of music to underserved children without your support!
